Starbucks raising some U.S. cafe drink prices

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Starbucks Corp will increase the price of some of its beverages in U.S. company-operated cafes by as much as 10 cents, the first price change in up to two years, a spokeswoman said on Friday.

The price hike will be effective June 25, Starbucks spokeswoman Lisa Passe said.

"Less than a third of beverages will be affected by the price increases," Passe said. "In most stores, the price of a Grande or Venti brewed coffee, as well as Frappuccino and Refreshers, will remain the same."

Nationally, the average beverage purchase price increase will be about 1 percent, she said.

The most a tall brewed coffee will increase by is 10 cents, while some markets will not see any increase in brewed coffee, she said.

Green arabica coffee prices dropped to a four-year low on the ICE Futures U.S. market at $1.1710 per lb on Thursday.

Coffee commodity costs make up less than 10 percent of Starbucks' overall store operating and occupancy expenses, Passe said.

Miami fans rush toward arena after Heat win

MIAMI (AP) ? Miami Heat fans swarmed from downtown bars and rushed cheering and screaming into the streets late Thursday after their team won its second straight NBA championship.

As the final seconds of the Heat's 95-88 win over the San Antonio Spurs wound down, fans by the thousands streamed into the area surrounding the AmericanAirlines Arena to exchange high-fives and hugs, blow whistles and simply scream. Some climbed atop street signs and a railroad crossing.

Unlike last year's final game blowout of the Oklahoma City Thunder, which ended a 4-1 Heat series win, the year's decisive Game 7 was tight until the end, adding to the excitement when a late run by Miami finally put the Spurs away. Because the over-the-air, cable and satellite television signals weren't quite synced, cheers would go up from one bar when the Heat hit a shot, followed a second or two later by cheers from another.

"It's euphoria in the city of Miami," said Alex Vailon, a 20-year-old Miami resident. "How many teams have took two in a row?"

Several, actually, but Miami fans were not interested in history lessons as their team celebrated its third NBA title in the last eight seasons. As with the Heat's two previous titles, officials said the city's celebration was generally peaceful ? police chased away a few celebrants who were jumping on top of limousines that were leaving the arena.

"This was by far the best (win)," said Gary Pollack, 58, who has had season tickets for 12 years and was inside the arena for the game. "San Antonio is an unbelievable team. I am so exhausted from the last two games, I feel like I played in them."

A few miles away in Miami's Little Havana neighborhood, thousands gathered in the streets to bang pots and pans ? a neighborhood tradition ? hold up Heat signs and chant "Let's Go Heat!" People in the cars driving by rolled down their windows, stuck their bodies out and waved their hands and also banged their pots and pans. Men smoked cigars and almost everyone captured the cookware symphony on their cell phones.

"This is what we Latin people do," said Carlos Gonzalez, 33, who was holding up a sign with the image of LeBron James' head. "There's no words to explain this. We're going to party till the sun rises."

Even children were taking part in the celebration.

Ernest Denis, 12, said he was feeling "a lot of rush and excitement." He was banging the top of a pot with a spoon and wearing a James jersey.

He said he wanted "to make a lot of noise and alert everybody that the Heat won."

Lt. Ignatius Carroll of the City of Miami Fire Department said early Friday that authorities had gotten no reports of major problems arising from the post-game celebrations. He said there had been no gun-related incidents as of 1:30 a.m., with the main problems earlier being fans jumping on cars and limousines outside the arena after the Heat won.

"It's a very peaceful celebration," Carroll said, adding that the heavy police presence near the arena helped maintain control.

Hundreds gathered around a van owned by Telemundo, the Spanish-language TV network, to catch white T-shirts with the Heat logo being thrown by a man on its roof.

Among them was Ernesto Lopez, 43, who caught two, one of which he immediately put on. He planned to share the other with family.

Even though he has been in the United States just three years, he said he was driven by "the emotion, the passion" of the final game to come out and celebrate.

"It's important to say that San Antonio was good too," he said. "But the Heat won and congratulations to us!"

Dior to Sponsor Guggenheim International Gala in November - BoF ...

NEW YORK, United States ??Today, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum?announced that Dior will be the lead sponsor of its fall gala, taking place on the 6th and 7th of November, 2013, and honouring artists Christopher Wool and James Turrell, whose light exhibition ?Aten Reign? is set to open at the museum tomorrow.?Raf?Simons, Dior?s artistic director,?co-hosted a breakfast this morning at the museum?s Wright restaurant to announce the partnership.

Simons will serve as honourary co-chair of the event, affectionately known as GIG (Guggenheim International Gala), which will include a party for young collectors, featuring a yet-to-be-announced musical performance, and a formal dinner.

?There?s been a long relationship between art and the house. It was one of the first things we discussed with Raf when we met to talk about the Dior contract,? Dior chief executive Sidney Toledano told BoF.

Simons is a well-known collector of art, whose past fashion collections have featured the work of Pablo Picasso. Andy Warhol?s watercolours played a significant role in his Spring 2013 collection for Dior.

?Historically, you?ll find many designers who are also great collectors,? said Richard Armstrong, the museum?s director. ?The visual activities are parallel, but also intersect.?

Indeed, the links between fashion and contemporary art are longstanding. Back in the 1930s, Elsa Schiaparelli collaborated with Salvador Dal? on Surrealist-inspired pieces, while Yves Saint Laurent created a Piet Mondrian-inspired shift dress in 1965. In fact, the designer Christian Dior himself was heavily embedded in the art world and befriended the likes of Pablo Picasso and Jean Cocteau.

In recent years, the success of fashion collaborations with contemporary artists,?the growing popularity of fashion exhibitions at major museums, and?the rise of the Costume Institute Gala?at New York?s?Metropolitan Museum?of Art, which receives red-carpet press rivaling the Oscars, have cemented a more commercially-minded bond between fashion and art. In 2011, Dior itself staged a show at the Pushkin Museum of Art in Moscow and plans to open major exhibitions in Hong Kong and Shanghai this fall.

Mr Toledano told BoF that the underlying goal of these efforts was to bring museum-goers closer to the world of couture. ?We have 3,000 people journey to our atelier every year and I see that these young women and men are so excited to see the workshops and the magic behind the clothes,? he said. ?Raf and the new collection are really successful in the States and a lot of great things are happening in New York. I hope that this is the start of a long relationship with the Guggenheim.?
